Wei and Jin

During the Three Kingdoms, Wei, Jin, and Southern and Northern dynasties, China struggled between long-term division and temporary unification. To survive the wars, the Han people migrated across the Yangtze River to the south. This period became an important stage of the great integration between the northern and southern people. Influenced by the “left lapel” tradition in the Hu culture, a new style of lapel called “opposite lapel” appeared and became popular in the Central Plains as a compromise.

At this time, the tops of women’s clothing got shorter and became “Ru”, which means that it is always tucked into the skirt. The skirts’ styles are also enriched: some trailing along the ground; some very much pleated; some with alternating colors. Both men and women became fashionable with loose, unfettered large-sleeved shirts.
